Legal & Regulatory

The main legal issue I have to consider when designing this product is the Data Protection Act (1998). As people can take photos of the rooms in their house showing the digitized furniture they have placed on the app and share them on social media. I have a responsibility to make sure images of peoples houses are not accessed by anyone other than the people who are using the app and the people they choose to share it with. To abide by this law I will make sure my application requires people to create a password-protected account in order to use it. I could also incorporate a two-factor authentication system to make it extra secure. If a user wants to access their account on another device, they will need to have access to the main device their account uses; this will stop unwanted people accessing their account from another location.

Another legal issue I have to consider when creating my app is Copyright law. The images of furniture used in my application will belong to the company that produces them (e.g. IKEA, DFS, Oak Furniture Land). I must ensure I have permission to use images of furniture that do not belong to me and I must ensure.

I must also respect people intellectual property when creating my app as anything created as part of a company belongs to said company as they own the intellectual property. So if anyone leaves the company they cannot make a profit off the idea.

Social & Moral

As my app features no form of social interaction there are very few social and moral issues associated with it. As the app allows people to take pictures of their room then the company has a responsibility to not share any pictures taken with anyone else.
