Intended
Idea
The intended idea for my project is to create
an augmented reality app that allows people to view furniture from the UK’s
most popular home ware retailers in their own home. Users will also be able to
purchase products directly from the app.
Integrated Technologies
The main technology to be incorporated into my
app is augmented reality (AR). AR is a live view of a physical, real-world
environment whose elements are augmented by computer generated perceptual
information.
Purpose
The purpose of INTER-AR is to allow people to
visualise furniture from popular UK shops in their own homes. The app will make it easier to see how furniture will fit in a room, as
all the 3D generated images of the furniture will be to scale with the room. The user can visualise multiple pieces of furniture at once, which makes
it easier for them to plan the redesign of a room.
Target Audience
The target audience for my app will be both
males and females between the ages of 26 and 40 who would fall into the ABC1 categories
of the NRS social scale. I feel that people between
the ages of 26 & 40 are more likely to use and fully understand an AR
application, which is why I chose this age range. I
believe that people from the ABC1 categories of the NRS social scale are more
likely to use my application as it features furnishings from reasonably high
end retailers (e.g. Oak Furniture Land).
Visual
Style Ideas (House Style)
I chose blue as the main colour for my house
style because it is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness.
Redesigning a room can be a stressful experience for some people so the use of
this colour may help promote positive connotations of for the app. The colour blue also has connotations of cleanliness, which is a key
aspect of modern design, as a lot of houses tend to adapt a minimalist theme in
their design. I have used the colour orange as it has
connotations of joy, which could help promote a positive mood for my
application.
Marketing
INTER-AR will be advertised on social media
platforms that are most commonly used by the target audience. It will be mainly advertised on twitter as this platform has a feature
where a company can pay for their tweets to be “promoted” onto people’s
timelines. They can chose for it to appear on the timelines of a people from a
certain demographic so the company behind INTER-AR could promote the tweet so
it is seen by the target audience. Audio-visual adverts
could also be shown on TV in the adverts of programmes that share INTER-AR’s
target audience.
